Online shops & payments
Sell online, take payments, get paid reliably.
Online shops and payment flows engineered for conversion and reliability — checkout, discounts, subscriptions, secure card payments and the integrations behind them.
Selling online is mostly two problems: getting people to checkout, and making sure checkout never lets you down. I've worked deep inside both — building the payments system and a flexible discounts engine for one of the UK's larger online beauty retailers, and re-architecting an eCommerce product platform so it scaled per client instead of buckling under the busiest one. That's the engineering I bring to your shop, at a scale and price that fits a smaller business.

When this service makes sense
You probably need this if…
You want to sell online and don't want to hand a percentage of every order to a platform forever.
Your current shop is slow, clunky on mobile, or loses people at checkout.
You need pricing that off-the-shelf platforms can't do — trade pricing, bundles, subscriptions, complex discounts.
Your shop, stock, and accounts don't talk to each other, so someone re-types orders by hand.
You're launching a product and need a shop live in days, not after a three-month agency build.
How I approach it
My approach, step by step.
- 01
Design the path to checkout
Most lost sales happen before payment. I build product and category pages that load fast, answer the obvious questions, and keep the route to checkout short — then measure where people actually drop off rather than guessing.
- 02
Payments done properly
Card payments through a trusted provider (Stripe and similar), so card details never touch your systems and you inherit their fraud protection and compliance. Apple Pay, Google Pay, subscriptions and saved cards where they earn their place.
- 03
Pricing and promotions that fit your business
Trade and retail pricing, bundles, tiered discounts, vouchers, launch offers. I've built a discounts engine for a high-traffic retailer, so the awkward rules other platforms can't express are usually straightforward here.
- 04
Connect the back office
Orders flowing into your stock, fulfilment and accounting instead of being re-keyed. This is where most small shops quietly lose hours every week.
- 05
Built to hold up on your busiest day
Caching, sensible architecture and load-tested checkout, so a sudden spike from a campaign or a mention is a good day rather than an outage. High-traffic retail is exactly where my engineering background comes from.
What you get
Concrete deliverables.
- A fast, mobile-first shop built around your products and how you price them
- Secure card payments, with Apple/Google Pay and subscriptions where you need them
- A discounts and promotions setup that matches your real offers
- Stock, fulfilment and accounting integrations so orders don't get re-typed
- Analytics and checkout tracking so you can see exactly where sales are lost
Typical timeline
A focused shop with a straightforward catalogue can be live in days. Custom pricing rules, subscriptions, and back-office integrations extend that — larger builds are day-rate with a two-week minimum, and I'll give you a fixed written quote after a free scoping call.

Common questions
What clients usually ask.
Why not just use Shopify or Wix?
For a simple catalogue, sometimes you should — and I'll tell you if that's the honest answer. Custom becomes worth it when platform fees are a real cost at your volume, when your pricing or fulfilment rules don't fit the template, or when you want the shop to be genuinely fast and yours. I can also build custom on top of a platform's checkout when that's the best of both.
Is taking card payments safe?
Yes, when it's built correctly. Payments run through an established provider, so card details never touch your server and you're not carrying that compliance burden. I've built payments for a high-traffic retailer and worked on banking and card-management systems — this is well-trodden ground for me.
Can you migrate my existing shop and its orders?
Yes — products, customers, orders and URLs. Keeping your existing URLs and redirects intact matters, because a careless migration can wipe out rankings you've spent years earning. That's planned in from the start.
What does an online shop cost?
It depends on the catalogue, the pricing rules and the integrations. Simple shops sit in the same range as a website build; anything with custom pricing logic or back-office integration is day-rate with a two-week minimum. You get a fixed written quote before anything starts.
